Piccolo Padre: A twisted pizza story

So yesterday we decided to visit Piccolo Padre in Sliema. I have heard quite a bit of positive feedback about the pizza they serve there but of course I wanted to experience this for myself and quench my love for pizza on the eve of a public holiday. A first for me since I’ve never eaten there before.
The place is quite gorgeous and really liked the cultural and historical ambiance. It felt very Italian and very Venice. We stayed outside on the balcony (nothing fell thank the Lord), ordered a bottle of white wine, enjoyed the lazy summer breeze and started to scan the menu. Naturally, I headed towards the pizza section.
Piccolo Padre is not only a pizzeria but of course has a selection of pasta and meat dishes on the menu. Nonetheless, it has quite a selection of pizza and I usually go for the one with the most ingredients and unfortunately most expensive but fuck it, I love me a chunky, voluptuous pizza.
I went for the Salumiere, composed of Mozzarella Fior di Latte, tomato sauce, bresaola, speck, Parma ham, salame Calabrese, baby spinach leaves & pecorino shavings.
My friends went for Pizzotto (v), a rolled pizza with sesame seeds, filled with Mozzarella Fior di Latte, mushrooms, onions, gorgonzola & brushed with honey.
After a few minutes my much awaited pizza arrived.

Sadly, it was not love at first sight. It seemed to lack some ingredients and it gave me the impression that the much required love that goes into making a good, tasty pizza was missing. All was prepared, baked and served with great haste! The blend of all ingredients was not as magical as expected and the dough was a bit too chewy. It didn’t have that softness, warm feeling of a pizza coming straight out of the oven. I could not feel the love. The love was gone. End scene.
I then went on to taste the other pizza - a rolled pizza which I usually am not a fan of, since I like seeing my ingredients all spread out ready for me to eat. Side note - I always make sure I taste my guests’ pizza. It’s tradition. It’s law. It’s a condition.
To my surprise, even though Pizzotto is a vegetarian pizza, I actually really liked it. That honey touch on top of the crust made it sexy and I gained happiness again. I was complete. Go for that peeps.

Love me a twist in the pizza fairytale.
So overall I give the first pizza a sad 6 whilst the second one a nice 7.5 and a star for making me happy again.
On to the next pizza. Whoop Whoop! :)
